The research performed within the UCFA is aimed to further improve knowledge on the mechanism of food allergy. Knoweledge about mechanism can be used to develop new tools for diagnostic, therapy and prophylaxis. Futhermore, it can help food industries and regulatory authorities to implement knowledge about allergen management. To achieve these aims, the collaborating research groups developed various in vivo and in vitro models in animals and humans. Also, computer models have been developed to calculate risks for food allergic patients, as well as techniques to detect allergens in different food matrices.
